Chapter 2...Part 5

The couple drove down the mountain and the girl saw Magic Mountain for the first time. They stopped in Valencia for a break and ended up talking with the best friend once again. The best friend once again yelled at the girl to come home and told the guest that he was being selfish and needed to send the girl home and then when he got things figured out he could send for her or return to Utah for her. The best friend told them both that he knew her friends would get things together to get the girl home. The couple told him to see what he could find out and they would make their plans from there.

The couple spent the next several hours sitting in the McDonald’s restaurant of Wal-Mart waiting for the phone to ring. Finally the couple called the best friend back to see what the status was. He told the girl that he had tried calling all the friends he could think of and no one could or would help her out. There was one friend that was willing to buy her a bus ticket but that was it.

This brought up the question of what would happen to her SUV and her belongings if she did this. The couple argued over this for a while and he texted his brother and the model. Of course he texted them that the girl was going to leave him so they both said bad things about her and both told him that if he came to them without her they would help him but if he chose to stay with her then they wouldn’t help.

With this information in mind the couple turned around and headed north. There was no longer a reason to head to LA if the girl was going to stay with the guest because the model would not help them out. They reached the town of Castaic, CA and stopped at the Pilot truck stop. The girl talked to another friend who agreed to send them money. She said that she just needed it back as soon as they got to the house because this money had been set aside for a specific purpose.

The couple headed back over the Grapevine and stopped at Frazier Park again to sleep for the night. The next morning the guest was talking with an older man who was hitchhiking and trying to go the same way that the couple was going and agreed to give him a ride. They drove back toward the Petro truck stop and stopped for a while so it wouldn’t be such a hot drive across the desert. They watched a movie then decided it was time to drive.

The couple headed toward Bakersfield, dropping the older man off before they headed across the Mojave Desert.

The mountains the desert are on are ugly in spots and beautiful in others. The girl took some more pictures on their drive and was able to see the airplane graveyard, made famous in the movie “ConAir”, and Andrews Air Force Base.

The couple finally made it across the desert and to Barstow, CA. Anyone who knows the girl would know that at this point she couldn’t get the Depeche Mode version of “Route 66” out of her head. Once they were in Barstow they stopped at the TA truck stop for a while then moved over to the Flying J after they ended up in a yelling match with the best friend because he threatened to call the cops and tell them the guest had kidnapped the girl. They were afraid they had attracted too much attention and that the cops would show up and they would be in trouble. The couple spent that night in the SUV in the Flying J parking lot.

The couple still had some money. The guest was talking with the model who told him that if they stayed for the night in Barstow that she would come meet them the next day because she was going to be done with her photo shoot that evening.

With the little bit of money the couple had left they got a room for the night. They had a little bit left for dinner from the grocery store. They had a relaxing night. The girl was concerned that the model would not show up the next day but the guest swore that she would be there and all would be well. He said that the house was not that far from where they were and they would be able to get there as soon as the model got there the next day.

The next morning the girl was devastated. The cell phone quit working. It had power but the service had been discontinued. How would the model know where to find them? The guest told her not to worry because he had told the model to meet them at the Flying J so it was all going to work out.
