Chapter 8...Part 8

After the guest left there was much discussion. It came out that Dave had never seen the RV or met James or Tanya. He said that one time when they stopped there was an RV that drove by on the freeway and they could only see the top of it. The guest had told Dave that was them.

When Dave drove around the Flying J parking lot where James supposedly parked the RV for the night, he didn’t see any RV’s at all. When the girl was waiting for the guest to return with money for the phones, it turned out that he had called Dave and asked him for the money for the phones. Then he told her girl that the money came from his dad, James. When Dave asked where the girl was then he told Dave that the girl was with James and Tanya clothes shopping.

When the girl was coming home from work and she saw the guest and Dave leaving they were gone putting money on the guest’s netspend card. He had told Dave that he needed money on his card for the trip to California.

The more they talked the more they all learned. They had been keeping secrets from one another because the guest had talked them into it. The girl found out that when the guest went to California a couple of weeks before that he had borrowed the money from Dave, not from a friend.

So much came out of that discussion and they learned so much about the guest. Of course there was so much they never did find out about.

The next week was complete hell. The girl tracked a lot of the guest’s journey by his netspend card. It ended in Reno. The guest claimed he was in Bakersfield but there were no charges at all after Reno. There were 2 rooms rented on the way and money was taken off the card in Wendover and in Reno. The guest kept calling and telling them he needed more money. He had plenty of money when he left to make it to the airport in Fresno and his dad was supposed to get him on a plane in Fresno.

The guest claimed he got to the airport but that his dad would not buy him a ticket or help him out because the girl had not gone with him.

The guest ended up keeping them all hanging for a week. He would say that he was going to turn the car in and then never did. One time he even claimed that he turned it in. Everyone in the airport went looking for that car and it never was found. He kept trying to blackmail them into sending him more money. He told them he would return the car if they sent him money.

It was a horrible week. Everyone was stressed. Dave and the girl even went to the South Ogden and Ogden police trying to report the car as stolen. Unfortunately since Dave had put him on the rental agreement then he was legal to drive it. They spent several days working with the car rental company trying to get them to report it stolen because they were the only ones who could do that. It was a complete and total nightmare.

Chapter 8...Part 7

They quickly got dressed and headed to her parents’ house. Her dad had gone back to work. They discussed what to do for the day. One of the complaints the girl had voiced to the guest was that he had gotten his own cell phone but had not done the same thing for the girl. The guest told her they were going to look at cell phones.

They went to BestBuy so that they could look at different carriers and different phones. They decided on the phones they were going to get. The guest said that he needed to call his dad and ask for the money for the phones. He then told the girl to wait there while he went to get the money from his dad. He came back about a half an hour later with the money and they walked away with cell phones.

Then he told the girl that they were going to go look at cars again. He said that his dad was willing to put a certain amount of money down. They found a car that they liked and test drove it. They decided that was the car they were going to get as soon as his dad got back and gave him the money.

It was getting late in the afternoon and his dad was still in SLC. He told the girl that she should go ahead to work and he would call her later with all the information.

They went back to her parents’ house so she could get the car and go to work. The guest text messaged the girl as soon as she left the house and didn’t stop for hours. He told her that his dad was originally going to drive the rental car back to California where it was supposed to be dropped off but had decided to fly because Tanya was sick. Since this was the case then the guest was going to have to drive the car back to California himself. He said that his dad would fly them home if they drove the car back.

By this time the girl was tired of all the crap. She was sure that it was all lies at this point. The guest told her that she needed to leave work. She decided to work it out to leave work but she was not leaving the state until she saw some proof of his father or money or something to go by.

She got home just as the guest and Dave had left to run an errand. Her mom told her they were supposed to be right back home.

When the guest and Dave returned the guest told the girl that his dad was checking on flights for the next day. The girl had told the guest that the only way her boss would let her come home early was if she promised to be back on time the next day. Originally the guest said that they would be back on time with no problem. 2 hours later he said that his dad couldn’t get a flight out for her to be on time. The girl told him that if she couldn’t be back on time that she couldn’t go.

The guest told her that they were going to meet with his dad. For whatever reason he had taken the RV up to the Flying J in Willard Bay. He had decided to drive to Brigham City because he had never been there before. Now anyone who lives in Utah can tell you, no one goes to Brigham City for the sites. There aren’t any really.

After a little while the guest told the girl that his dad was ready to head out and that he wasn’t waiting for them. The girl told him that she wasn’t going with him unless he could guarantee she would return home on time the next day. The guest was mad but told her to do whatever she wanted to do.

Chapter 8...Part 6

The girl got a call late that evening saying they were back. The girl didn’t know what to think. They had made it back and with the RV even. The guest told the girl that before they took care of anything else he wanted to talk with her. He said he would bring her dinner and they could talk on her lunch break.

He told her that she had to make a decision to be with him or not, to support him or not. The girl told him she was tired of him telling her that things were going to work out but nothing ever happened. He said that his dad was going to stay and make sure that things were taken care of. She was happy with that fact and said that as long as things were taken care of she would be happy and stay with him.

The guest left and the girl went back to work. A couple of hours later the guest called her to ask if he got a hotel room would she stay with him for the night. He said his dad was paying for it. She said she would as long as he cleared it with her parents since she had their car. He called her back telling her where to go.

She stayed the night with him. He told her that they were going to meet with his dad and niece for a late dinner before going to bed. After waiting a couple of hours the phone rang and it was his dad. He said that they would meet in the morning instead because they were tired.

That night the guest was really attentive and told the girl how much he missed and loved her and how things were going to get taken care of now that his dad was around. They went to sleep with good plans for the next day.

The next morning the girl woke up to breakfast in bed. She had thought that they were going to meet his dad for breakfast. The guest told her that plans had changed and they were going to meet later in day instead. The girl was eating her breakfast and the guest was out on the balcony smoking when he got mad. The girl asked what the problem was. He grabbed his cell phone and made a phone call. He yelled at the person asking him what he was doing and why. He told him to go back to work and not worry about it.

When the guest got off the phone the girl asked what was wrong. He said that her dad, Dave, was driving around the parking lot checking up on them. He told the guest that he just wanted to see the RV and was looking for it. The guest was mad at Dave for checking up on them.

The guest’s dad called and said that he was taking the RV to SLC to get serviced because it couldn’t be serviced in Ogden, heaven knows why not. He said they would meet later for lunch.

Chapter 8...Part 5

The next couple of weeks went fairly fast. The girl went to work everyday. The guest started working on her parents’ bathroom. He told them how he had redone his mom’s trailer bathroom and claimed to know all about it. Dave decided to trust him.

During this time Dave and the guest spent a lot of time together. What the girl was unaware of was that the guest was manipulating her father. He was doing the same thing to Dave that he had done to everyone else.

First of all the guest told the girl when she got home from work one day that he was going to California to get an RV from Mitch. He said he borrowed the money from a friend of his and that he was going to take care of things.

The guest was gone for 2-3 days and returned again without an RV or money or anything else. He claimed he talked with his lawyer when he was in California and that his lawyer was going to send them a check.

Then 2 weeks later the guest and Dave announced that they were going to Las Vegas. He said that his brother had tried to drive an RV to them and it broke down in Vegas. It was still under warranty so he said it was being fixed by Freightliner in Vegas and that they just needed to go pick it up.

No one in the house thought this was a good idea and all cautioned Dave about making this trip. Dave wanted so much for things to work out for his daughter that he decided to take the chance.

They set out to Vegas on Thursday of that week.

2 days later the girl sat in the kitchen with Gayle telling her that Dave was on the same journey she had just returned from.

The 2 got to Vegas and got a room. The next morning the guest left and went over to Freightliner and was told that it was going to take a lot longer to fix than they had anticipated.

The guest called his dad, James, and explained the situation. James told the guest that he would bring the extra RV to the guest then would just take the rental car back to California and turn it in. James brought the guest’s niece Tanya with him.

The guest told Dave that it would be better if they traveled down to Barstow and meet up with his dad there. So off to California they went. They stayed in the same hotel that the guest and the girl had stayed in when they were in Barstow the first time.

Sunday morning Gayle got a call from Dave telling her they were headed home. They had decided that the guest and Dave would drive the rental car back and James and Tanya would drive the RV back.

Chapter 8...Part 4

The couple had been at her parents’ house for a few days when the girl had just had it with the whole situation. Her friend from Oklahoma was back in Utah and she just needed to get away. She called him and begged him to come get her. She packed up her stuff and headed out the door. She intended to be gone for the weekend so she could have a break. She knew if she stayed that there was a good chance that the cops would end up at her parents’ door and she didn’t want that. She was at her very limit.

The guest was incredibly upset that the girl was leaving. She said she was going to spend the weekend with friends. He told her she was not leaving and she told him she was. She didn’t know for sure what she was going to do but she needed to get away to figure things out. She knew she couldn’t make any choices if she stayed at her parents’ house. She was also sleeping in a Lazy-Boy chair and she hadn’t had a good sleep since they had left the condo.

She finally walked out of the house and down the driveway. She had told her friend to meet her down the street and told the guest that her friends didn’t want to be involved so they weren’t picking her up at her parents’ house. He was even more mad but let her go.

The girl got away for 24 hours and it was so peaceful. It was the first time she had been away from the guest in several months. She had not slept one night without him near her. It was so freeing and the girl remembered what she had been missing for months.

Frank wanted the girl to run away with him to Oklahoma. He promised to take care of her and get her out of the situation. The girl knew she couldn’t do that for a couple of reasons. One of the reasons was that she knew she needed to do this on her own. It was time for her to stand up for herself. The other was that the guest was still staying with her parents and the girl just couldn’t do that to them, especially since they had tried to help her.

Frank was very mad about the situation but he took her home.

Chapter 8...Part 3

The girl’s parents picked the couple up in the morning and they all drove down to Ogden. The girl’s mom, Gayle, told her dad, Dave, that she wanted to stop at the post office because there was a certified letter there for the girl. The girl assumed this was Gayle’s way of giving her a chance to tell the guest what was going on.

They got to the post office and the couple got out. The girl told the guest that she could no longer do this. She told him that she had made several phone calls and no one had received money and no one knew anything about the money. She told him that she had a place to stay but she didn’t have a place for him to stay. She told him that she cared about him but she couldn’t do this anymore. She told him that she didn’t see any choice except to take him to the truck stop.

Gayle got out of the vehicle and told the girl to go get the certified letter and she would talk with the guest. While she was gone Gayle got the guest to agree to go to the hospital to be checked out medically. He had agreed.

The certified letter did not have anything to do with the couple, was something from the girl’s past. They all headed to the hospital to the ER to have the guest checked out.

They sent the guest in for a CT scan and did an EKG on his heart. On the EKG they told him everything was fine.

While they were waiting for the CT results the girl used her dad’s cell phone to call Bob. She asked him what he thought was going on from his side of things. He told her that the guest had never made it to any meetings they had planned. He even told her that one weekend the guest had said the girl was sick and the weekend they went to California the guest had told him that his brother had been in an accident and died. He told the girl to be very careful and if there was anything he could do for her to let him know. He told her he liked her but didn’t believe anything about the guest and asked if she could confirm anything. Of course she couldn’t since she had never seen anything herself.

The CT came back and the doctor said that there was nothing showing up in the guest’s brain. He said that he would need to see a heart doctor but as far as they could see he was fine and he wasn’t having strokes or anything else.

Gayle asked the nurse if they had any suggestions as to what to do with the guest. She told him he was homeless and they didn’t know what to do with him. The nurse suggested going to St. Anne’s Shelter. The guest told her to just take him to the truck stop.

Gayle was really tender hearted and just couldn’t see taking anyone and dropping them off. She told the guest that he and the girl could stay with them for a few days while they decided on some things.

The girl did not want to go to her parents’ house. She wanted to go to her friend’s house and to be rid of the guest. Her heart had been hardened and she just wanted her life back. She had lost almost everything she owned and she just wanted to get started on her life again.

Chapter 8...Part 2

After a couple of days it started to look like things were not going to happen. They still had the rental but it was getting close to when they were going to have to turn that in also.

They went to Ogden and spent some time with her mom then went and the girl spent some time with her sister. The guest told her he wanted to stay in the car and figure something out. The girl was completely out of ideas by this point.

They were going to go to a truck stop for the night and sleep in the car and the girl’s dad called and offered to get them a room for the night. The guest wanted to get a room in Tooele because that was closest to John so her dad got them a room at the same place they had already been staying at.

This was kind of a scary night. The girl was up late and heard a horrible noise. She looked out the window and a man keying someone’s car and yelling for someone to come down. The only thing the girl could think was that someone was cheating on their spouse and he was mad. She was so worried cuz their rental was sitting next to the car he was damaging. She called the front desk and was told the cops were on their way. They did get there later but the guy was gone. The girl was so scared that something was going to happen to the rental. In the end the rental was fine and who knows what happened with the domestic situation. Ironically the guest slept through the whole event.

The girl’s dad ended up getting them a room for the next night also so they had a place to stay one more night. The girl had to go to work and their cell phones had been shut off. When she left the guest was really sick and mad at her for leaving but she knew she couldn’t continue to miss work. She had to go.

They made it through the night and the next day the couple was completely out of options. The girl’s dad called and offered to get his time share at Wolf Creek for the couple for a few days. It was something.

It was the weekend and the couple had a relaxing few days. They watched videos and the condo was so comfortable. It was so beautiful outside and the girl loved being in the mountains.

On Monday the girl decided she’d had enough. When she left the guest she started making phone calls. She called everyone she had a phone number for and could get in touch with. Everyone said they had not been paid and no one seemed to have any idea what was going on. Sandy at the title company said that she not only had not gotten wire transfers but she was also out the money that she had given the couple. Everyone said they couldn’t understand why a person would promise something like that and not follow through.

The girl finally decided that she was going to leave the guest. She talked with her parents and told them that her only option was to drop him off at a truck stop and let him find his own way in life. She didn’t have any way to support him. She hadn’t even gotten her last paycheck because they had moved. She was out of options. The only option she had left was to go stay with a friend and the guest was not invited.

Before the last day at the condo, the girl got a phone call from the car rental company. They told her that the couple had over-extended too much and if they didn’t return the rental that night then they would report it stolen. The girl got a friend to help her take the rental back and get her to the condo.

The next day the girl’s parents came to get them. They told her they would help her leave the guest.

Chapter 8...Part 1

The drive home felt like it took forever but they finally made it. Well, they made it to Tooele. They stopped and had a drink at the Flying J. This was when it was validated that they were again homeless. The girl was text messaging with DK and the two of them ended up fighting. By the end it was for sure that the couple had no place to go. They had just enough money to stay at the motel next to the Flying J for the night and that is what they did.

On Monday the couple had to figure out what to do. The guest told the girl that he knew how to work things out. He called the lady at the title company, Sandy, and told her that they wanted to look at her place. She was selling a ranch. They went to see her ranch and home. It was very beautiful. After the tour the guest told Sandy that they were going to have an extra house and did she know of anyone that would be willing to rent it from them. He said that John was not going to let them have either house until the guest could show that they had someone to move into both houses.

Sandy said she had a brother who was going to need a place to live and that she was willing to pay the rent for him to live in that house. She gave the guest a check for part of a down payment of rent and they signed papers for renting the house.

The girl just sat there in amazement at the way that the guest could get people to believe in and trust him. It truly was amazing to witness. This gave them some money to get through the day. After all, they were going to get money the next day from John.

They got a room for the night again and had money to have dinner. It was a pleasant evening. They discussed everything that they would do the next day when the got the money. New cell phones and getting ready for their house. There was still a chance the girl could get her things from her storage unit also because they had not auctioned it off yet. Things were going to be taken care of.

The next day the guest called John who said he would take care of the money stuff later in the day. They just needed to chill out for the afternoon.

They went to Gateway and spent time looking at things. The girl used to do this in another relationship. They would go into stores and dream wish. It was fun.

It started to get later and later in the day and John still had not gotten them money. No check or anything else.

This ended up happening for a couple of days. They had enough to get a room for a couple of nights but that is it.

Chapter 7...Part 10

They drove to Vegas via I-15. If the girl had realized how easy it would have been to get home back when she was in Barstow she would have gone home because it really was just get on I-15 and head back to Utah. She wouldn’t even have gotten lost on the way there.

On the way to Vegas the guest had a discussion with DK. The two of them fought and the girl knew it was not a good thing. It wasn’t specifically said but the girl was pretty sure they would not have a home when they returned later that day.

They finally reached Vegas and they were getting very low on funds. They checked into the hotel they had found before they left California and sat down to rest for a little while. They had very little money left. The guest claimed that Mary would give them money to get home besides the Escalade so it wasn’t a problem.

The guest started to talk about getting dinner and said that they should get the buffet. The girl knew they wouldn’t have hardly anything left after that and told the guest that she was not going to eat until Mary had given them money. The guest got so mad at the girl that he broke the lamp. The girl just looked at him. She knew that it could have been her that he hit. She sat at her laptop for the next couple of hours devising a way that she was getting home. She was bound and determined that she was not going to get stranded in Vegas. What worse place could there be to be homeless and moneyless?

She decided that no matter what happened she was willing to again pawn her laptop. She figured she could figure things out when she returned home, she just needed to get there. She once again put everything from the computer onto flash drives and decided not to stress over the situation.

After the guest had taken a nap they went to dinner and enjoyed themselves for the evening.

Later that night the guest again was really sick. He was foaming at the mouth and was losing time and space. The girl enjoyed just having time to herself. It sounds callous but she watched him to make sure he was still breathing but besides that she watched what she wanted to watch and played video games until she went to sleep.

The guest woke up early and called Mary. She told him to come see her at the Pilot where she worked. She said she would give him the keys to the Escalade and money.

The next thing she knew the girl got a phone call from the guest telling her that Mary didn’t have the Escalade with her or money. That he was coming back but that Mary would call him before checkout and get with him.

Checkout time came and the guest had been unsuccessful in reaching Mary. They finally just had to leave. The girl told the guest her idea of pawning her laptop. He seemed genuinely sorry. They also had her TV and DVD player with them. The guest thought that would give them enough money to get home. Apparently he didn’t have a clue how much pawn shops gave for certain things because it certainly was not enough. They did end up pawning the laptop. The girl was sad to let it go again but no matter what she was not going to be stuck away from home again.

They left the pawn shop, got gas and headed back home to Utah.

Chapter 7...Part 9

Friday arrived. They had rented a vehicle and packed all of their belongings in the vehicle. Every time they left the house for a day or more the guest wanted to make sure they packed up all of their stuff to take with them. This time everything had been packed in anticipation of moving. The guest said that when they returned they would all be moving into their new homes.

They left early that day to drive to Tooele. The guest was supposed to meet with John and finalize everything before they left Utah. The couple went to lunch and the guest called John to see if he was going to meet with them. John told him that he was not going to be able to meet with them that day. The guest asked him when he was going to get his money because now John was in charge of all of that. He told the guest that he would for sure have his money on the following Tuesday.

The couple was waiting for time for the girl to go to work. It was getting near time that they would need to get her back to Ogden. The guest told her that there was another way to get back to Ogden besides I-15. The girl racked her brain trying to figure out what that way was. In reality the guest tricked her. He told her which way to start driving. It wasn’t until they were headed on I-80 west that he told her there wasn’t any way to turn around until they got to Wendover. The girl was furious with him. He told her that if she turned around he would just go to California without her. The girl probably should have turned around but she decided to go with it. Once again the guest got his way because the girl gave in.

The couple drove all day and arrived in Reno late that evening. They stopped for dinner, medicine for the guest, and a shower at the Pilot then continued on. The drive ended up much longer than anticipated because they were detoured after Lake Tahoe. The couple never did find out the reason for the detour. They arrived at their destination early on Saturday morning.

This was when the drama started that would later leave the couple homeless. The guest and DK started having discussions about rules of their house when they received it. The guest told DK that John wanted a signed contract stating that they would keep the house in a certain fashion and that checks of the premises could happen at any time. DK was not happy about this situation. This discussion happened over breakfast.

After breakfast the couple was able to check into a hotel and laid down for some much needed rest.

After a rest the guest called his brother, Mitch, to work things out with the RV. He told the girl that he was going over to his brother’s house to work things out without her there. Truly the girl was thrilled to have the time to relax without him there and to get some more sleep.

The guest returned later and said that Mitch had loaned the RV’s out to family and that they would not return until Monday. Mitch said that he refused to call them and have them return sooner. When the guest asked him why he loaned them out when he knew they were coming to pick one up Mitch said that he didn’t believe they were coming so didn’t think it would be an issue. However he said they were going to dinner with Mitch and his family.

They went to dinner with Mitch and his family. Of course Mitch picked an expensive Japanese restaurant and the guest didn’t say that they couldn’t afford it so they ate an expensive dinner when they were already getting low on funds.

That night they got sleep and packed up on Sunday morning to head home. The girl asked if they should wait until Monday and take the RV home. The guest told her that he didn’t want to spend the money to stay when he didn’t know when they were returning so they should head to Vegas and meet with Mary. He said Mary would give them his Escalade and they could take it home.

So off to Vegas they headed.

Chapter 7...Part 8

Sunday morning they packed everything up. The guest called John who said he was too busy to meet with them that morning. He said they were still in Wendover and would not be coming back soon. The couple headed back home.

The girl knew getting back home was not going to be pleasant. They still had no money and it was Easter. The kids didn’t have anything for Easter and the girl didn’t have any kind of money to even help out. DK and Kent had figured out a way to get some things for the kids. The house had been all packed up and everything was a total mess.

The couple got home and was welcomed back into the house but not pleasantly. Everyone was disappointed in the weekend and emotions were running high.

The next week or so was a crazy week. There were emails back and forth about the houses and the guest said that John wanted him to run Miller Sports Park when he bought it.

The guest told the girl that they had to go to California. He said that they had 2 motorhomes there that his brother had been keeping in storage but could no longer store. Apparently doing the paperwork at all those different RV stores they now owned a couple of RV’s.

They fought all week about going to California. The girl wanted to spend money from her next paycheck to get her things out of storage. She had one last chance to not lose everything and she wanted to get what she could. The guest fought with her so much and cried about it that she finally gave in and told him that they could go but this was absolutely the last time that she was giving in. After this she was making the decisions as to what to do with her paycheck. It’s not like he was bringing in anything and she told him that when he got his money he could do whatever he wanted to with it. She also told him that she would go but only with the condition that she would go to work on Friday night.

The rest of the week was spent planning for the trip.

Tuesday, December 22, 2009

Chapter 7...Part 7

The next morning the guest called John who told him they needed to go look for furniture and get him an estimate because he was buying them a house and furnishing it.

So off to the furniture store they went. They spent a couple of hours looking at furniture and dreaming what their home would look like. The guest even called a man about putting in a coy pond for them at the house.

After that they went back to the hotel and waited to hear from John. They got the room for an extra night and they spent that night discussing what could be done about the house situation. Ironically the girl had just gotten her paycheck on Thursday and it was now Saturday and they were completely out of money, 2 days later.

While they were waiting to hear from John DK and Kent called the couple to tell them that the house was now up for sale again and what was going on. The guest called and talked with John’s financial advisor. He said he would call them right back. When he called back he said that the house was now in probate and they would need to do something different. The guest called DK and Kent and told them the news. John told the guest that if DK and Kent decided on a house then he would go ahead and pay for it and the guest could pay him back. The couple called their real estate agent and DK and Kent and told them all to meet them at the houses. There were 2 other houses the couple had liked that were empty and could be moved into quickly.

They all met at the houses and DK and Kent decided on the house they wanted. Then they all went to the furniture store for them to pick out furniture.

It had been a very long day and they were all exhausted at the end of it. DK and Kent went back home and the couple stayed in Tooele for the night. John was supposed to take them to Wendover for the evening but by the time they were done in the furniture store it was too late to go. They got lucky and the real estate agent took them out to dinner at Flying J. If he hadn’t done that then they would not have eaten that night.

The couple stayed the night and got some sleep. The girl was getting frustrated because it seemed some things were working out but she still hadn’t met John and it seemed like so much was falling apart. They had no money and the trip to Florida had been cancelled. This had caused extra stress for her friends who had also lost their water that weekend and had to wait until the week to get it turned back on.

Chapter 7...Part 6

The next morning they packed everything up and headed back to Utah. The drive home seemed long but they finally got home and rested for the rest of the weekend.

Monday morning was back to work as usual. This continued for the next week then there was more drama. They all kept waiting to hear when everything was going to take place in regards to the house. The guest kept talking with the real estate agent and everyone else about getting the house taken care of.

The guest had been in touch with the head of Grand-Am, John. He told him they were having trouble getting the money that was owed the guest. John told him that he would be in Utah and would settle things. He was flying out because he was buying Miller Motor Sports Park.

The guest kept in touch with John. He said that his people would straighten things out with the house and everything would be fine. John said that his people had the house keys and would get them to all of them.

Before the week was up John said he felt bad about everything that had happened and that he was going to fly all the family, including kids, to Florida in his private jet to Disney World for Easter.

The couple rented a vehicle then they all went to SLC and stayed in a hotel overnight because they were supposed to hear from John and leave on a plane in the morning.

The next morning John called the guest and told him that he wanted to meet with the girl and the guest in Tooele. He said he was staying out at the track and would meet them at the Flying J.

The couple got to the Flying J and waited for John to get there. The guest got a call from him saying that he wanted them to go pick out a house. He wanted to know how much money he needed to get together before they left for Florida.

The couple got online trying to find a real estate agent quickly. Then they started to drive around the Tooele area looking for houses. They got a call back from a real estate agent who promised to meet them. The couple found a house in Stansbury Park that they both fell in love with. When the real estate agent got to them he called and got the combination of the key box and they went to see it.

The house was everything they could ever have asked for. It was just beautiful and they could have done so much with it. They looked at a few other houses but that was the one they decided they wanted.

The guest called John to tell him they had found a house. John told him to go ahead and sign papers for it and he would get the finances in order.

They went to the title company for the guest to sign papers. They also called and got DK and Ken a room for the night while they were out running around taking care of things.

They went back to the Flying J after everything was accomplished to wait for John and his instructions. It was getting late so the guest said they should get a room for the night. They stayed next door to wait for information.

Chapter 7...Part 5

The wedding weekend was fast approaching. The money was not coming and the guest was becoming more and more unbearable to a lot of people in the household. He wanted his way no matter what and when others would contradict him or wanted something different he made sure they knew they were the one who was in the wrong.

There were good and bad days. Finally the weekend of the wedding was upon them. There was no money and the girl had gotten a cut back at her job and her check was not as big as it usually was. The guest thought they should still go to Vegas even though the more they researched it they would not have the money. He had already told DK and Kent that they were coming with them and that the couple was covering their room and expenses. He said they should keep an open mind and that maybe they would work something out.

DK and the girl went dress shopping. It was quickie dress shopping so it might have been more fun but they did still have fun looking. They found a really cute and nice dress that was on sale for prom. They both loved it and they decided that was the one they should go back and get.

The couple booked the rooms in Vegas and rented a car to drive down. DK made arrangements for the kids. After buying the dress and having it fitted they all headed off to Vegas for the weekend.

The weekend was fun. They had just enough money to have some fun and be able to eat. The girl kept trying to talk the guest into eating more cheaply but of course he wouldn’t hear of it and they did spend a lot of money on food.

Saturday night the couple dressed in their ‘wedding’ clothes and they went to take pictures in Caesar’s Palace. The guest told the girl that was going to count as their wedding evening and that they would make it legal when they returned to Utah. He just didn’t want anyone to know they got married in Utah. He talked to Bob on the phone and told him they had gotten married.

The scariest and most humorous part of the weekend was that night when they tried to find Fremont Street. DK and Kent wanted to go so they attempted to find it. They kept driving and finally the guest decided he was done with trying to find it. He turned right and saw a drunk driver stop. He immediately pulled off to the side of the road and got out telling the girl that she was going to drive. He said he was not going to jail because the car was rented in her name. As he came around the car, a motorcycle cop stopped him. He asked what he was doing. He told the cop that the car was rented and not in his name. The cop told him they didn’t care about that. They only cared if someone was drinking. Ironically he was the only one in the car who had not drunk that night.

Because of the physical ailments of the guest, he could not pass any of the typical tests they give to possible drunk drivers. He had bad knees and a heart condition. The cop put him through all the tests. After he passed them all he gave him a breathalyzer test. He actually tested him twice because he didn’t believe it the first time. The cop finally let him go.

The guest still made the girl drive. She had to go past the checkpoint. She got yelled at by the guest when she answered ‘yes’ to the question as to whether she had been drinking or not. She had a half a drink before dinner several hours before. She knew if they smelled any alcohol on her breath she could get in trouble for lying to a cop. The cop looked in her eyes and asked her a few questions and let them go because of course she was sober. All the way back to the hotel the girl was yelled at for saying ‘yes’.

Before they went to bed that night the guest watched over the girl’s shoulder as she talked with friends on Facebook and made sure she told them that they had gotten married.

Chapter 7...Part 4

In the next few weeks there were several phone calls and emails going on with the race team. Kent was working on graphic designs for the car and the girl was working on designing team and firesuits. They were researching models and companies to manufacture team and firesuits.

The girl was quickly wearing out. She was working for the guest, working her regular job and helping out with the kids at DK and Kent’s house. She loved being with the girls though so that wasn’t a huge chore, just tiring.

During this time the couple took a trip to Reno, NV to pick up the girl’s laptop. The laptop she had pawned was a school laptop and she needed to get it back to the school.

Before they left the guest and the girl went to dinner at her parents’ house. When they said good-bye to her parents the girl noticed her mother had tears in her eyes. She promised her mother they were returning. She could tell her mother didn’t believe her and the girl was sad at the pain she must have caused her mother by being gone all that time.

While they were in Reno the guest tried to talk the girl into marrying him. He told her how much he loved her and that he wanted to make it permanent. Things looked like they were going well. The girl didn’t want to get married that weekend but they did tell her family when they returned to Utah that they were planning to get married. This was not greeted with happiness of course. This hurt the girl’s feelings but she figured they would all be okay with it as soon as they saw that the business was going to work out.

After returning from Reno plans were made to have a wedding in Las Vegas. The date was planned for after the guest was supposed to get money from BMW. He had a date in May when he was supposed to have a car on the track to race and his money was supposed to be sent to him in the second week of April. They decided the wedding would be the last weekend of April.

While making wedding plans and working on the race team, it was discussed that DK and Kent get a new house. The house they were living in really was not adequate for their family and they were renting. The guest told them he would buy them a house for helping the couple.

They all spent one day looking at houses with attached apartments or separate living spaces. This way the couple would have a place to live when they were in Utah. This was an exciting and fun day. At one point DK pulled the girl aside and told her that this better not be a wasted day for all of them. The girl was sure that the guest had a way to take care of things and she was so excited that her friends were going to finally get a house of their own.

They found a house they all liked and the guest signed papers to get things started. Of course they couldn’t have a house without furniture so they also had to go furniture shopping. They went to several different places and registered at Bed, Bath and Beyond. Everyone was excited about the changes taking place in their lives.

Chapter 7...Part 3

It seemed everyone was content with the situation. The guest got several calls per day from reputable people in the Grand-Am race series. They came up on the house caller ID and could all be researched. The girl and Kent both talked with these people at different times. It seemed that this time the guest might be correct and things might actually happen.

In March the owner of a race team, Bob, and his team manager, Kory, flew out to Utah to sign contracts with the guest. Before they all met, the girl researched Bob and could find him and his race team online. Kent and the girl discussed the situation and both felt that since Bob was reputable that made the guest reputable. After all, Bob would surely have researched the guest before flying to Utah to sign papers.

There was also someone from BMW that flew out to meet with them all. The guest said that BMW was buying his Ferrari and this would also give them extra money, in the amount of about $2,000,000.00.

The guest, Kent and the girl drove to SLC to meet with Bob, Kory and BMW. They went to lunch and the guest covered the check. Of course it was really the girl who covered it.

Kent and the girl were in on most of the meetings for the day but were told they needed to leave during the actual contract signing since they were not legally obligated to everything.

Kent and the girl went to a nearby truckstop, ironically and had fries and drinks. They discussed all that had happened during the day. They both agreed that Bob would not have signed contracts unless everything was all legitimate.

Bob and Kory invited the 3 of them and also DK to dinner that evening. It was quite enjoyable. They all went to Olive Garden and had a wonderful evening. It seemed like everything was going to work out.

Chapter 7...Part 2

The girl was thrilled to return to work the next week. It would be 2 weeks before she would receive a paycheck but just to be working and know a paycheck was coming was so satisfying and relaxing.

Going back to work was hard since she knew that people had talked about her while she was gone. She wasn’t quite sure what to expect in regards to returning but at least she was going to be back and doing what she already knew how to do. A work friend gave her some really good advice and that helped her get through those first rough days.

It was nice to be back to work and she was away from the guest for about 9 hours everyday. It was nice to again be able to think for herself. She also got to spend time with her mom each day since she was taking her to and from work. It was nice to have this time to catch up on things that happened while the girl was away. The peace was not all the time though. The guest still called her at work but she could tell him that she had to have short phone calls or that her manager was watching her and be able to keep the calls fairly short.

Before the couple returned to Utah the girl had discussed with the guest what he could and would do as work. Because of his heart condition the guest said that he could get on disability and possibly work some kind of a desk job. He said that his heart obviously was not going to let him work and that there wasn’t a doctor that would clear him through DOT so he didn’t have much choice. Obviously the race team was all messed up so he didn’t have a lot of options.

After they returned to Utah the girl kept telling the guest that he needed to get the paperwork together for disability. He kept giving her reasons that he couldn’t get an appointment. One of those reasons was because he did not have a copy of his birth certificate and social security card. He told her that he requested them but they hadn’t come in the mail yet and that he couldn’t even make an appointment until he had those documents.

What the girl didn’t know what that the guest was working on the race team again while she was at work and when she was sleeping. He eventually told her about it. He told her that he could no longer race in American LeMans but that he could race in Grand-Am. They had several discussions about the situation. The girl thought he needed to get disability and they needed to get him checked out health-wise. Even though they were home the girl was quickly learning that the guest thought he was in charge and whatever he said goes. He told the girl that she would work for him during the day and work her regular job at night.

What made things more frustrating was that the guest had talked about the race team with Kent. Kent is a graphic artist and the two of them discussed Kent doing graphic arts for the race team, especially designing the graphics for the race car. Kent was ecstatic because he thought this meant great business for him. DK was very leery of the situation but decided to stay out of it.

Chapter 7...Part 1

The next morning the couple got up and joined the family. The girls, Kari and Fawn were thrilled to see the girl. They saw her and ran into her arms. The girl was thrilled. She had not seen them in about 7 months and they remembered her. This was a big deal to her. She had been in both their lives since they had been born. With Kari this was 4 ½ years and with Fawn it was 2 years. It was so nice to be home.

The girl called her parents and told them she was home. She also talked with her mother about where to get help with food and financially and how she could/would get around. Her mother told her that she would help her take care of things.

DK and the girl worked on finding out where to get help for the couple. DK was very helpful and together with the help of the girl’s minister they made a list of places to start.

The guest was annoyed with the girl for seeking help. It is interesting when you think about it. He never had a problem asking for help from her friends or making their plight seem horrible so that others would help them out but he didn’t think it was a good idea to seek help from government and religious agencies. It seemed quite strange.

Over the next few days the girl called her work and arranged for her to return to work the next Monday. She visited the YCC for food and clothes and Catholic Community Services for food. DK didn’t mind helping them out with a roof over their heads and food as long as they were doing what they could to help out in return.

Chapter 6...Part 7

It was about an hour before the guest talked to the girl again. The girl was hoping that the guest would be so upset about it that he would find a way to go to Vegas or somewhere else. She was tired of him always dictating to her and laying down the law so to speak.

The guest finally talked to her again. He wasn’t happy about it but told her that he was willing to stay at DK’s for one night but that he wanted to do something different the next day. The girl didn’t care anymore. She knew if she could just get home then she would be able to figure things out.

The trip through Wyoming seemed very long. The bus they were on was very cold and they had been traveling by bus for 2 days now. Tensions between the couple were now running higher the closer they got to Utah and of course staying with people that the guest didn’t like.

The girl was never so thrilled to see Salt Lake City as she was then. It was February and she was finally home. Once they were in SLC she knew that there was no turning back. She was HOME!

The guest told the girl that he was going to the bathroom and smoking a cigarette. The girl put their bags on the bus and climbed on the bus to wait for him. The guest got onto the bus yelling at her. He was upset because he said he didn’t care if they missed the bus, he just wanted a cigarette. He was incredibly mad at her. He didn’t talk to her for most of the trip to Ogden. It was peaceful really. The girl swore that this was the quickest trip from SLC to Ogden she had ever travelled.

The bus pulled into the UTA terminal in Ogden. The terminal was closed but there was a warm van sitting there waiting for them. The girl was never so thrilled to see DK and Kent in her life and was sure they felt the same way.

Introductions were made and the couple got into the van to go to DK and Kent’s home for the night.

The couple got to the house and got ready for bed. The girl was just thrilled to be able to climb into a bed, in a house and get some sleep. It was uncomfortable but the best sleep she had in months. The guest told her he was leaving the next day because there was no way he was going to stay there. The girl was just happy to be home and didn’t care what the guest did anymore.

Chapter 6...Part 6

The couple walked over to the Pilot. The girl had stocked up on breakfast goodies that morning so they would have some food to take with them. They each had one luggage bag and the girl had her purse. Everything else was gone by this time. The information from Greyhound was that you could only have one bag unless you wanted to pay more to have it stored.

They got on the bus at the Pilot and traveled several miles in the wrong direction. They had to get to a Greyhound terminal. This was where the girl could pick up her own ticket that Frank had bought for her and they could purchase tickets to head to Utah.

After they had the tickets and were in the terminal waiting, the girl was much more relaxed now that there was no turning back. Once the tickets were purchased they couldn’t really make any changes. She was finally going back home!

The couple got on the bus. It took them a few hours to get to Atlanta where they would have a layover for about 11 hours. This was a really long time, especially when they were exhausted. The girl watched people sleep on the floor on their luggage and was jealous that they were sleeping. But the guest refused to let her sleep in any way, shape or form. They charged their cell phones and had food while they waited. This seemed longer than anything they had been through so far since there wasn’t even TV except for CNN and that kept repeating.

They finally got on the bus and were headed west again. They got some sleep and had some excitement after they woke up. The bus had a mechanical problem. They waited by the side of the road for a very long time to have someone come and help them out.

When they were back on the road they had another setback. One of the passengers had a seizure. EMS was called and they had to wait while the passenger was taken care of.

They finally got back on the road. This made each stop after this entirely too fast. They took shorter breaks because buses were waiting at the next terminal for them to get there so change buses. There was barely time to go to the bathroom, get a quick bite to eat and get back on the bus. Definitely no time to charge cell phones or do anything else.

The closer Utah got the girl was excited but also worried. She had spent the entire trip emailing or texting people trying to find a place for them to stay. She knew there were several people that would let her stay but the both of them were a challenge. She kept hoping that the guest would hear from Mary and head to Vegas at some point.

Just before they got to the Denver, CO terminal the same passenger had a 2nd seizure. This was not only another mess to deal with but passengers were delayed getting off the bus and onto the next bus. The guest tried to talk the girl into staying in Denver and waiting for Mary to call. He was sure that she would call later since she was sleeping. She worked graveyard shift in Vegas. The girl was not about to stop. She told him he could stay but that she was continuing. She was not taking the chance of not being able to go home now that she was headed that direction.

The guest was not happy about it but he got on the next bus with the girl and continued west towards Wyoming and Utah.

While they were in Wyoming the girl got a text from her friend DK. DK told her that she and the guest could stay with them. She wasn’t happy about it and her hubby, Kent, wasn’t thrilled about it but DK told the girl they would work it out.

Now the girl had to break the news to the guest. The guest had forbidden the girl to have any contact with DK ever again. She told him that this was the only way they were going to have a roof over their heads. She told him that she had contacted all her friends and no one else was willing to let them stay. The guest was mad and told her that he would think about it.

Chapter 6...Part 5

The guest had told the girl that his friend in Las Vegas, Mary, would help them out but hadn’t been able to get in touch with her so far. The girl desperately hoped that the guest would hear from Mary or would decide just to go to Vegas instead. She gave him that option before they left Cordele. He decided he would head west with her to Utah but said as soon as he heard from Mary they were headed to Vegas. By this time the girl knew she was going to Utah no matter what but she didn’t say anything.

That last night in Cordele was very sad and miserable. The guest got really sick. They went to dinner that night and he was really sick. He kept asking where the puppy was and said he was taking leftovers to the puppy. The girl sat in the restaurant with tears in her eyes. She was sad over losing the puppy and she was watching the person she cared for getting really sick in front of her. She was sure that night she was going to have to call an ambulance and have him taken to the ER. No matter what happened though she knew she was going home. Even if he went to the hospital, she was getting on a bus the next day.

That night was very long and the girl was such that the guest would quit breathing and to be honest, a part of her hoped he would get so bad that she had to call 9-1-1 and could go home by herself. She cared about this person but she was so tired from everything that had happened.

The next morning the guest was still sick but less so than the night before. He was no longer drooling and had his memory again. The girl had really hoped that the guest was not going to join her going home.

Before they headed to the Pilot the guest told her that he was going west with her but that he didn’t want to go to Utah. He would travel west with her until he heard from Mary and then they would go to Vegas. The guest was very sure of himself and he was sure he was still in charge of their destination.

Chapter 6...Part 4

They woke up the next day and the girl stocked up on food from the complimentary breakfast bar. By this time she was really good at taking anything they could get for free since they never knew when they would have money or eat again.

Jake came over later and paid for them to have the room another night and took them to eat across the street at Golden Corral. The guest was in heaven and it was nice to have some company besides the guest.

Jake had to leave the next day but he gave the guest money to get them by for the next couple of days and headed out.

During the day the guest was spending his time over at the Pilot trying to get them a ride out of there. He was back to getting to Florida. The girl was starting to get desperate. As much of the time as she could she spent time in the front office in front of the computer emailing everyone she could think of. She just wanted to go home at this point.

One of the times the guest was at the Pilot the girl did something she never thought she would do. She called her best friend from Utah, Charlie. He had told her that if she ever wanted to come home to call him and he would get a truck driver friend of his to come get her. She was just tired of being stuck and didn’t want to sit in another truck stop and pray for someone to pick them up. Charlie told her he would get a message to his friend and let her know as soon as he could what was going on.

She also texted 2 of her good spiritual friends in Utah. She knew they were very perceptive and that they would be honest with her. They didn’t know what had been going on but she knew they would tell her what they thought. She gave them a brief run-down of what had happened. Both of them told her they thought she had leaned the lessons she needed to learn and that it was time to come home. She put even more energy to finding a way home.

The last day they were there the girl got an email from a really old friend of hers. They had known one another since junior high school. He told her he would send her the money to come home. This was enough money for her to get home but not for the guest. She felt bad trying to leave him so she called Frank and begged him to send her a bus ticket which he told her he would do before. He did that and they got ready to go home. The guest was not thrilled with the situation but the girl was determined and he knew he either let her go or he went with her.

Chapter 6...Part 3

Over the next few days Sam borrowed more money from friends. It felt like the same thing the girl had already been through with her own friends. Not another word was heard from Barry. The 3 of them watched as much of the Rolex 24 that was available on the local channel. They watched TV all the time and slept off and on.

The girl was getting incredibly depressed and was starting to have suicidal thoughts and dreams. They had a really sharp knife with them and she would imagine all the things she could do to take her own life.

The girl started emailing friends and decided it was time to get out. They weren’t getting anywhere and she was just done with everything.

One evening the guest talked with her away from Sam. He told her that he had called a friend they had met on the road, Jake, and he was coming to get them that night. He told her that Jake was only picking up the two of them. He had met Sam and didn’t like him and refused to pick him up too. At that point the girl just wanted so survive. She felt bad about Sam but figured if they could at least get out of the situation they could always help Sam out later.

The guest told Sam some story about Jake picking them up but that they were just going to take care of some financial things and would be back to pick him up the next day. Sam believed him and the girl packed up their stuff and got ready to go. They had to leave a lot behind. They only took their suitcase and a duffle bag. Everything else was either put into the garbage or left in the room. The girl knew leaving things behind in the room was the same as trashing them and knew she had lost more than she had lost by leaving Utah in the first place. She had held on to so many things to get them back home and now more were gone.

Jake picked them up really late that night and drove them several miles. He was going to let them off at a TA truck stop but when they got there it was closed. It was still in the truck stop guide but you couldn’t even see where one had been. He drove them back several exits until they got to a Pilot. This was in Cordele, GA.

Jake didn’t want to just leave them stranded. He was going to stay that night anyhow and was nice enough to get them a room at the motel next to the Pilot. He told them he would be back over the next day after he had dropped his load and left them there.

The couple slept in very comfortable beds for several hours. The girl was still worried but she also needed some sleep. The stress of the past few days finally caught up with her and she slept dreamlessly.

Chapter 6...Part 2

They spent the night in the motel waiting for the phone call that would tell them to get a ride to the airport. The guest’s phone never rang, not even once. The next day the girl called an old friend and begged him to help her get the room for another night. She was so surprised when he said he would do it. They hadn’t even been in contact in years. It made her think that there were still people out there who trusted her. She had begun to doubt this since she had so many friends tell her they had given up on her.

Orion was still with them at this point. The girl was so proud of him. He was listening to her so well by this time that he didn’t even need a leash. It had only been about a month but he listened to his mommy so well and she was very proud of him. He was the sweetest dog. The girl had made sure that she was going to be able to take him on the jet. She didn’t want to lose him.

They all spent that day waiting for the confirmation about the airplane. No calls came again. Finally the guest tried calling his friend Barry. Barry should have been going to Rolex himself and lived in South Carolina. The guest got in touch with him. Barry apologized for not calling before about getting the girl home for the funeral. He had some story about his girlfriend breaking her leg and them going to the ER and getting distracted. The guest told him that was okay but they now needed help getting to Rolex. Barry told him that he was leaving for Rolex the next day and was willing to come get them on his way.

Barry was supposed to pick them up the next day before check out time. It started getting closer and closet to check out time. They were all out of money by this time and didn’t know what to do. They finally decided the only thing they could do was to appeal to the manager to leave Orion at the motel with all their stuff promising to return. They all walked to a local truck stop in the freezing cold.

They discussed their options and both Sam and the girl got on the phone and called anyone they could. Finally Sam got in touch with someone who was willing to loan him some money. They picked up the money and headed back to the motel.

While they were gone Orion had gotten sick. They didn’t know if he had eaten something bad or what had happened. The guest and the girl cleaned it up the best they could. They all settled down to wait for Barry’s phone call. Another day ended up passing with no call from Barry.

The next day the manager asked them if they would move to another room. They packed up all their stuff and moved to the other room. After housekeeping had been in their previous room, they were told that Orion could no longer stay with them. The 3 of them then had to decide what to do about Orion.

They didn’t know what to do about the puppy. They knew they would be evicted if they tried to keep him hidden. He was a dog for heaven’s sake. He needed to go outside and run around. There was no way for them to hide him. They finally decided the only thing to do with him would be to try taking him for a walk and try to lose him.

The girl spent that night in mourning. She couldn’t even love on Orion because it was breaking her heart that they were going to have to get rid of him. He kept trying to come to her and she had to keep telling him, “Orion mommy loves you but she can’t love on you right now.” It was the saddest she ever remembered being.

The next day the girl took Orion out walking and tried to lose him while they were walking. She would get so far away from him and he would just find her again. He was just too attuned to her. Then the guest tried putting him over the fence hoping that would do it. A couple of hours later he showed up back on the doorstep. He knew where he was and where his mommy was. He just wouldn’t stay away. Finally, Sam and the girl walked for a mile hoping that they could find a way to leave him behind. They also thought that maybe it they got to the truck stop he would be confused with the truck smells and also maybe a truck driver would pick him up. The entire time they tried to ignore Orion. He would run across the street and every time the girl would cringe thinking he would be hit by a car. He never did. He kept coming right back to them. The girl was almost in tears of frustration. What were they going to do with him? Eventually they finally found a way to lose him but the girl never forgot and would forever wonder if he was okay. She felt like a horrible human for having to lose the dog in the first place.

Chapter 6...Part 1

By this time it was getting near the end of December and in January was the Rolex 24-hour race which the guest said they were racing in.

The girl spent her days on the phone with Candy coordinating the guest and room list for the Rolex 24-hour race. They called several hotels, limo services and plane businesses. They weren’t getting very far with the planes and the guest talked with the person who was over American LeMans, Barry. He offered to let them use one of his private jets. They apparently had an extra. Who has extra jets just lying around? There was so much that the girl didn’t know about the racing business. For all she knew this was normal.

The guest again suggested they head back to Florida to again try to take care of the money situation as this still hadn’t improved over all that had happened. By this point the girl didn’t contribute much to the decision making strategy. She left the ideas up to the driver, Sam, and the guest who seemed to always be in charge. The 2 decided it was a good idea to head back to Florida.

While driving to Florida, the end of the month came. The 3 of them spent time again at Daytona Beach. This time they made sure they parked legally. The girl again spent time collecting tiny shells from the beach. Little did she know these were the ones that would eventually make it home to Utah with her.

The girl figured this was a great way to start the new year. How could it be a bad year if you started it at Daytona Beach? The day was so peaceful and it was so nice.

Sam got a call from the office he worked out of in Georgia. There weren’t any loads out of Florida but they were sure they could get him a load if he got closer to the office in Georgia. Sam and the guest discussed it and decided it was the best idea to head towards Georgia.

While on the way to Georgia the guest got in touch with the owner of American LeMans, Stefan. Stefan told the guest that Merrill Lynch had paid him and that everything was good to ferry everyone to the races in Florida. Stefan also told him that he could have his jet pick up him, Sam and the girl in Georgia if he could just get there. It sounded like their luck was turning around. In Georgia the jet would pick them up and there was a chance they would get a load. To the girl it seemed like their luck was changing and things were finally going to work out.

On the way to Georgia Sam took out a loan from the owner of the truck so they could take care of things. They needed to eat and they knew once they got to Georgia they were going to need to stay over for the night. They had a good dinner and got on the road.

It took them a couple of days but they finally made it to Georgia, outside of Atlanta. This was the end of the road in so many ways. The 3 of them would spend the next several days at the hotel.

When the guest had told Sam and the girl that they were going to be flown to Florida and it was finally time for Sam to start working for them (Sam was going to be a driver for the race car) he got on the phone and told the owners of the business that he was quitting. The girl thought this was premature until they knew they were getting on a place but the guest and Sam were just so excited to no one seemed to listen to her.

They got to the motel and the girl quickly unpacked the truck. Sam helped but the guest claimed he was too sick to help. He was looking worn out and not good. Sam headed off to return the truck and get a ride back to the motel.

Chapter 5...Part 7

They headed north again. They finally reached the cold of North Carolina. It had been such a nice change to be where it was warm. Florida was so nice compared to North Carolina. They were back where it was cold again.

The first day back they went to Candy’s house. She fed them and they had a nice chat. This was when they met Candy’s daughter Kathy. Kathy and the guest got along very well. He told her he would like her to join the office team with her mother and the girl. They talked about the charity work that the guest said he did with horses. Kathy told the guest that she had a friend, Melanie, that had a horse in need of rescuing. It was decided that they would go look at the horse the next day.

Sam, the guest, and the girl went back to the truck for the night. Then they went back to Candy’s house the next day. The girl stayed at Candy’s house to do research and type up notes while the guest, Sam and Kathy went to see the horse.

When they all got back the guest told the girl to go look out back, he had brought her a present. She just knew it was a dog. The guest had been telling her he wanted a puppy for months. She had told him that they could not have one until they were stable. How were they going to take care of a dog on the truck?

The girl went to the back door and looked out. Yes, indeed there was a dog back there. She was so irritated with the guest that she didn’t even know what to think. She went outside to see him. Yes, he was really cute but he was still a puppy and she could just tell he was going to be big. She didn’t know what he was but he looked like he definitely had german shepherd in him.

The guest came over to her and told her that he was now hers and she needed to give him a name. She was so upset with him and told him. He told her that he was being starved and mis-treated so he HAD to bring him home. He did look thin but she was so stressed. They couldn’t take care of themselves, how would they take care of a dog too?

Candy was really nice. She took the girl to the store and bought dog food and human food for those on the truck. The girl was surprised at the generosity of Candy. She felt really bad too because so far Candy had not been paid and she was not sure when they would all get paid.

The 4 of them went back to the truck. From then on the puppy was the girl’s responsibility. She named him Orion. The name just came to her. She was the one who cleaned up after him, fed him, watered him, walked him (in the freezing cold). The only time the guest did anything with Orion was when he was really in trouble and when he snuck him Chee-tos. Of course from day 1 they agreed not to give him human food and of course the guest just had to break the rules. They also agreed Orion would not get on the bed but if the girl was still asleep when the guest got up in the morning, he would have Orion get on the bed. After that the girl was always fighting to keep him off the bed.

They lived this way for the next few days.

Chapter 5...Part 6

Meeting Candy and Beth was really nice. The girl was so happy to be around females again. It seemed like forever since she had been around feminine companionship. They all met one morning and got to know one another. The girl set up files on Candy’s laptop and they discussed where they wanted the business to go. How nice it was to work again!

Later on they all went car shopping. Yes, reminiscent of other times in Utah but the girl was sure this time would be different. She also thought that maybe she would finally see something come from Merrill Lynch. After all, how were they going to buy cars if they had no money?

This was the day the girl found her dream vehicle. They were at a Buick dealership test driving Buick Lucerns when the girl saw a vehicle she had never seen before. It was what they call a crossover. It was just the perfect size. All wheel drive and comfy looking. She test drove it and after that she wanted no other vehicle. This dream of hers was a GMC Acadia. They had just been released. The one she drove was fully loaded and she fell instantly in love. The guest promised her that she could have one and priced everything out the door.

That night everyone had high hopes. They all had a really nice dinner together at a yummy Mexican restaurant. This was when they also met Candy’s husband, David. The evening was so enjoyable the girl didn’t want to go back to the truck.

They spent the next several days in North Carolina. They spent time at Candy’s house and she made them dinner a couple of times. Then it was decided to head to Florida again.

The 3 of them headed south again. When they got near Alabama, Sam got a call. He received a bonus check. Well, of course this was reason for everyone to spend money. To this day the girl could never figure out why it was better to spend all the money and have none later. Sam was a gambler and it has already been established how the guest was. Instead of saving money and trying to figure a way out of this mess the first thing they did was to eat at a non-cheap restaurant. Then they stayed in a motel for the night. It had been such a long time since the girl had slept in a bed she didn’t sleep much that night. However, she was thrilled to spend an hour or two in a nice, hot bath.

The next morning they were off towards Florida again. This was definitely getting old. They never seemed to make it anywhere near where they were supposed to be. However, this time they did indeed make it to Florida. Sam had never been to any beaches in Florida before so it was suggested that they go back to Daytona Beach.

They got to Daytona Beach and saw another truck parked in an empty parking lot. They parked near him. They went down to the beach for a couple of hours then went back to the truck for lunch. They went back down to the beach for a couple more hours. The men walked down the beach for a while and the girl was left by herself. It was a nice time for her. She picked up small sea shells from the beach and just enjoyed being on her own. It was peaceful and quiet and no one was telling her what to do or what an idiot she was for doing it.

After a while she was starting to be concerned where the men went. She called them on their cell phones and neither one answered at first. Then the guest called her back. He said they were on their way back and with a present for the girl. She figured it was some kind of a sea shell.

She eventually saw the men walking toward her and she could see the guest was holding something in his arms. When the men got to her he unwrapped his shirt to show her 2 star fish that they had chased for her. She wasn’t thrilled that the star fish were dying but the guest assured her they would have died anyhow. Now that they were out of the water she was just thrilled that she had them. They had also gathered a lot of big shells for her.

After they gathered all their belongings they headed back to the truck. Sam went on ahead to unlock the truck. Soon you heard him yelling for the guest. The couple just figured that Sam was being overly dramatic about something. The guest left all their belongings with the girl and went to see what all the fuss was about.

What they found out was that the truck was gone. Completely gone! When they walked over to the parking lot where they had parked there was now a sign that said ‘no parking, all will be towed’ and gave the information of the company. This was an incredibly stressful situation. The guest seemed less upset that the other two. He told Sam to just call the company, find out where they were and what it would take to get the truck back.

The tow yard was only about a mile away from where they were. They first called a cab company. They had $10.00 left. It was going to cost them at least $40.00 just to get one mile. They found an orange vendor on the beach who was willing to drive Sam to the tow yard. Sam ended up calling the people that owned the truck and they advanced him the money to get the truck out of impound. It was $400.00 for one mile of towing!

The next night they made it incredibly close to Miami. They got to the truck stop closest to Miami and spent the night there. The next morning the guest called Merrill Lynch and was told that they couldn’t meet with him.

Well, now what? They were finally almost in Miami and things still weren’t being taken care of. The decision was made to head back to North Carolina and see what could be accomplished there with the office girls.

Chapter 5...Part 5

Monday dawned and it was decided that the best course of action was to head back towards Florida. The guest was sure that things would work out much better if he went to the Miami office of Merrill Lynch. So back on the road they went after saying good-bye to John and Jane.

The next week or so was riding in the truck, stopping at truck stops and deciding on the best course of action. The guest talked Sam into getting him and the girl cell phones. Finally, she had a way to call her parents and on the sly text some of her friends. It was so nice to be connected to the world again. She had to be really careful and had a few scares but it was so worth it in the end.

Finally the guest told Sam and the girl that he wanted to get things going with the business (car racing). By then the girl was back on board so to speak and again believing what the guest said. Sam was completely hooked also and interested. The guest asked Sam if he knew of anyone that could do secretarial work. Sam said that his ex sister-in-law, Candy, could do secretarial work and he had a friend, Beth, that could also work.

The guest then spent time talking with both women and decided that Candy would do a good job. He got her started working on the MySpace page and doing research. The girl had been through so much by this time that she didn’t even realize that this was exactly what had happened back in Utah. She was just excited that things might get done and that things were happening.

Sam got a load to Michigan and off they were to a new destination for the girl. They drove through a lot of snow and ice. It is scary to be on icy roads in a car, even scarier in a truck. The girl spent several hours just hoping they would be okay and completely freezing. There was only so much heat in the truck and the girl ended up huddling under blankets trying to keep warm.

They spent a few days at a TA truckstop in Michigan. Ironically it wasn’t as cold there as it had been driving there through Indiana and other near locales. After a couple of days they decided heading south toward Florida was a good idea.

They spent a week on the road and Christmas came nearer and nearer. The girl really wanted to be home to spend time with her family for Christmas. While the guest was working on getting a friend of his to help get the girl home, she got a phone call she had been dreading. This was the hardest trip of the entire journey. The girl received a call from her mom, he grandfather had passed away. The girl burst into tears of course. This was totally devastating to her. She had missed saying good-bye to her last grandparent. She knew her mother really needed her because she just lost her father. It broke her heart that she could not be there for her mother when she needed her. She cried for a little while then the guest told her that it was time to stop crying. He claimed that when his wife died he didn’t cry much and didn’t see the need for the girl to cry either. She spent the next couple of days trying to be pleasant and not depressed over the death but it was incredibly hard for her. Shouldn’t her partner support her and try to be there for her?

The guest swore he would find a way for the girl to go home for the funeral for her grandfather. He spent time on the phone trying to arrange a way to get her home. He even told her mother over the phone that he would find a way to get her home.

The guest told the girl that he had talked with a friend of his, Barry, who owned his own private jet. Barry had told him that if they could get her to the airport he would find a way to get her home. They decided on the date and time and the girl packed her stuff ready to go home to Utah. She was so excited and didn’t want to spend her time awake even because she was so ready to go home.

The time came closer and the girl was ready to leave. The guest got a call from Barry. He said there was bad weather and they would need to postpone the flight by a few hours but that he would call back.

The 3 of them were watching a movie and the girl fell asleep. She woke up a couple of times and looked at the clock on her phone. She would ask the guest if he had heard anything. As soon as she heard the bad news she would go back to sleep. Finally she woke up and it was about 3am. This was when she finally started to give up hope. No one was calling and she was not going to the funeral. She cried for a while and the other 2 were sleeping. She finally cried herself to sleep knowing she was not going home.

The next day the guest told her how sorry he was. He said he had been trying to call Barry and he was not answering the phone so he didn’t know what the problem was.

The funeral came and went and of course the girl didn’t get home for the funeral. The 3 of them spent the few days leading up to Christmas at a Pilot truck stop in Georgia. This was very scary. The girl was not even let out of the truck alone even to go to the bathroom. She always had to be accompanied by one of the men. They both told her it was too risky and that she could be hurt or kidnapped or raped. Yes, a bit of a scare for her and kept her on her toes to be sure.

Those days in the truck stop were spent hoping and praying for money. The guest had talked with Merrill Lynch and they were supposed to load a credit card for the guest. They were supposed to have a wonderful Christmas and the girl was supposed to go home for Christmas.

Christmas came and no money. They all had Christmas dinner at a Flying J in Georgia. This was one of the times the girl used money from her emergency $20.00. Flying J gave away dinners to all the truck drivers. Both Sam and the guest had CDL’s and could eat for free. The girl was able to also eat because of the money she had saved. Lucky for her she had been smart about the money and had saved it all this time.

Dinner wasn’t horrible and afterward she was able to watch a few episodes of one of her favorite TV shows, Monk, without anyone giving her grief or looking over her shoulder. She sat in the TV room and the guys sat in the truck. It was very freeing and was a nice evening.

After Christmas it was decided that the 3 of them should go to North Carolina where Candy lived and meet her and also meet Beth. So off to North Carolina they went.

Chapter 5...Part 4

The guest decided at that point it would be best to get back together with Sam. He called Sam and told him that he needed to meet them in Knoxville, TN so that they could decide what to do about things. The guest was so good at talking people into things that Sam agreed.

Now the couple had to figure out how to get to Knoxville.

That evening the guest talked someone into giving him some money for them to move on and they met a couple, John and Jane, who had some change and wanted to get out of the truck stop also. It was freezing in Arkansas and everyone just wanted to get somewhere else.

The 4 of them headed to Tennessee. The couple found out the story of John and Jane. They said that they had been on a truck. John was a driver and Jane joined him. They were married with a couple of kids. Supposedly the truck they were driving burnt to the ground and that is how they got stranded. They were headed east somewhere and any way they could figure out was how they were getting there. That is why they joined the couple on the road.

They reached Knoxville early in the morning. John and Jane went into the Flying J where they stopped to watch TV and the couple again slept in the car. When they awoke, they called Sam to see where he was. Sam was still several miles away so they had a few hours to wait.

While they waited the couple ended up talking with a driver, Bob. The driver told the guest about his trucking company and how to get a job there. The girl was so excited as she thought the guest might actually get a job. He talked with the driver and it sounded like he was really interested. This excited the girl. Maybe things would work out anyhow. Bob bought them lunch and they had a good talk. One thing the guest never knew is that Bob gave the girl some money in case of emergency. She would keep this for a while utilizing it here and there as she needed to. Bob wanted her to make sure she had some emergency money. This was so nice of him and the girl really hoped that the guest would get a job.

Late in the evening Sam finally arrived. The girl was amazed at how the guest could talk Sam into doing anything also. Sam bought them dinner and they discussed the best plan for the future. The guest was of course still telling Sam that he was going to buy him his own truck and what they needed to do to accomplish this.

After this it was a 4-day wait and see what happens. It was the weekend and the guest said that he couldn’t get in touch with Merrill Lynch until Monday. So they waited out the weekend sitting in the truck at the Flying J truck stop. John and Jane joined them for meals which they cooked in the truck after a run to Wal-Mart and the guest told them they could sleep in the rental car since the rest of them would be sleeping in the truck.

The 3 spent all their time together except when the girl took time out to do laundry for everyone. It was a long weekend and Knoxville was getting cold by that time too. The girl was so grateful she at least had a coat and shoes, something that Sam had bought her before they got to Maryland.

Chapter 5...Part 3

The couple stopped at a Petro truck stop in Arkansas. At this point the couple ended up arguing. The girl was sure her friend Frank would help them out even though she had not called him. The guest was sure that Frank would only help her and not him because he was sure Frank was in love with the girl. Why the guest had not mentioned this beforehand was a mystery to the girl. Finally the girl broke down and called Frank.

Frank confirmed what the guest had said. He said that the girl could come to Oklahoma but that he would not help the guest out. He was angry at the guest for getting the girl into trouble to begin with and would not help him. At that point the girl had a choice to make.

The couple slept in the car and the girl prayed for the strength to go to Frank in Oklahoma and sort things out later on. She was tired of doing this and being on the road. Sleeping in cars and wondering where her next mean land shower were coming from. She woke up before the guest and had decided she was leaving him that day. She was going to call Frank and have him come get her, which he had offered to do.

When the guest woke up they discussed it. He told her he was sure she had decided to leave him. She told him that yes, that was her plan. She just couldn’t do what they were doing anymore. They had been away from home for about 2 months and she was so tired of living like that.

This was where the guilt trip started. The guest first told her that she was leaving behind a very sick man. His heart condition was so bad and if she left him that he would probably die without her. Then he continued to tell her that she was screwing Sam by leaving because he had gotten them the car. For the life of her she could not figure out how she was screwing Sam if she left. The couple was supposed to turn the car in and couldn’t understand why the guest couldn’t do that himself.

After several hours of discussing and at times arguing over the whole situation, the girl finally gave in and told the guest she would stay with him. It was so much easier than arguing. Why she couldn’t just leave she could not say but she was just too tired from the guilt and the arguing.

The couple was out of money by this time. They spent the last of what they had on a bag of jerky. This is how the girl chipped a tooth that day. This was when she really realized how bad things were. She had no way to go to a dentist and she knew she would probably eventually lose the tooth because it would not be able to be fixed. This just increased the depression of the whole mess.

Chapter 5...Part 3

Monday morning dawned and the girl packed up all their things in the car and waited for the guest to call Merrill Lynch. He was told that they would not be able to see them until Tuesday morning. How was this possible since he had called on Friday and they said to come in first thing Monday morning? As usual things were not adding up. The guest said the best thing to do was to turn around and go back to Saint Augustine and try to get into his house.

They drove back to Ocala to the Petro truck stop. They ended up sleeping there overnight in the car. They spent time there trying to decide what to do. They contacted Sam and he told them his truck had broken down after they left him and it was in the shop. He was in North Carolina at his nephew’s house waiting for the repairs. Of course he couldn’t figure out how they were in trouble again and really, what could they tell him?

Someone gave them money at the Petro and they drove north back to Tallahassee. They had picked up a couple of guys that needed rides from the Petro and helped them out on the way there. At least they were doing what they could to give back from others helping them out.

The got to Tallahassee and slept in the car for the night. The girl was sitting in the TV room when the guest came and got her to help someone out. A homeless man had bought a go phone so he could talk with his daughters. The guest told him that his wife (the girl) knew all about technology stuff and would get it all set up for him. So the girl proceeded to help him get his phone set up. In return the man had spoken with the guest and knew they were trying to get home to Dallas is what the guest told him. He gave them money and gave them his address and told them to just return the money when they could. He said he had done this before and no one had ever paid him back but he still wanted to help.

The couple was very grateful and at first headed east toward Saint Augustine. After they had driven about 70 miles the guest told the girl he wasn’t sure about going to the house. He didn’t have his keys and didn’t have anyone he could call to get keys. The girl asked if they could just break into the house. After all, it was his house right? He said that yes he could do that but he was afraid that the girl might be wanted by the police at this point. They discussed it for the next few miles then the guest told the girl that they needed to turn around and head west again.

At this point the girl could think of no other solution than to head to Oklahoma where she had a good friend, Frank, she knew would be willing to help her. She mentioned this to the guest and he agreed that it would be a good idea. She told him that if nothing else it would give them a roof over their heads while they figured everything else out. The girl also knew that no matter what happened she would be safe with a friend and things would eventually work out.

The couple headed northwest and towards Oklahoma. The girl was so happy things were working out and so positive that things were going to be better. The drive was very nice.

When they drove through Dothan, Alabama, they passed an RV store. The guest suggested they stop and again look at RV’s. They did and the guest decided the best thing to do was to special order the RV they wanted. Again he swore that Merrill Lynch would cover the cost. Since they needed to keep moving and weren’t staying and getting stranded, this didn’t seem like too big a deal to the girl.

They moved on and kept heading toward Oklahoma.

Chapter 5...Part 2

The 3 of them made fairly good time and was soon in Maryland. There wasn’t anyone else to unload the truck so the guest and the girl helped unload the load. They were each given souvenirs from the owners of a pen and an insulated coffee cup.

After the 3 of them left the drop off place they went to the TA truck stop in Maryland. They all discussed what to do next. The guest promised Sam that they would buy him a new truck. Of course by this time the guest had time to tell Sam that they owned a race team and had a lot of money from his inheritance, yes, the same story that had started this entire journey. Sam was of course thrilled that he had decided to help this couple who in turn was going to help him out.

The guest told Sam that he needed him to loan him money to get a rental car and to drive to Merrill Lynch in Florida. The girl never could figure out why everyone believed the guest’s stories but they did and she was starting to believe it again. She had now been only with the guest for over 2 months.

The 3 of them drove to Richmond, VA where Sam got a rental car for the couple. The couple promised Sam they would be in touch. Amazingly Sam believed the couple and sent them on their way with a rental car in his name and money he had advanced to them.

The couple drove from Richmond to Saint Augustine, FL that night. They stopped in South Carolina on the way at a TA truck stop for a late night snack and a couple of video games. The girl had driven most of the way while the guest slept. The guest took over and drove the rest of the way into Florida in the rain.

They had now kind of come full circle again. They were back in Saint Augustine. They drove down to Ocala and then on to Wildwood. The couple stayed over in Inverness.

That night, Friday, the girl called her parents. She found out her grandfather on her mother’s side was dying. This was her last living grandparent. She was so upset that she wasn’t there that she didn’t know what to do. She told the guest that she needed to get back home to see her grandfather before he died. The guest promised her he would find a way to get her home for her grandfather. The girl also called her friend in Oklahoma and told him what was going on. He told her that if she could get to a bus station that he would buy her a bus ticket home so she could be there for her grandfather’s death. He was not happy that she had not used the money wisely before but he would help her out nonetheless.

The girl started to look up bus stations and where she would need to catch the bus.

The next day the guest told her they were going in search of one of his employees for the race team. This was the guy who owned the shop where they fixed all the cars. The stop was in Inverness. They drove through the city and the guest took her by where the stop was supposed to be. It was now called something else. They got the phone number off of the building and drove around some more. The guest took her to a house where he said he had lived with his previous wife.

The couple went back to the motel for the night and tried desperately to decide what to do on Monday. The discussion started out that they would get closer to Miami and to Merrill Lynch. The guest wanted to head that way on Sunday and stay over near Orlando until Monday morning then move onto Miami. The girl was starting to get worried. They would be further away with less money and not guaranteed to get into Merrill Lynch. What if something else happened and they were stuck in Miami with no place to go. The guest finally agreed that they should stay where they were and call on Monday morning.
