By this time it was getting near the end of December and in January was the Rolex 24-hour race which the guest said they were racing in.
The girl spent her days on the phone with Candy coordinating the guest and room list for the Rolex 24-hour race. They called several hotels, limo services and plane businesses. They weren’t getting very far with the planes and the guest talked with the person who was over American LeMans, Barry. He offered to let them use one of his private jets. They apparently had an extra. Who has extra jets just lying around? There was so much that the girl didn’t know about the racing business. For all she knew this was normal.
The guest again suggested they head back to Florida to again try to take care of the money situation as this still hadn’t improved over all that had happened. By this point the girl didn’t contribute much to the decision making strategy. She left the ideas up to the driver, Sam, and the guest who seemed to always be in charge. The 2 decided it was a good idea to head back to Florida.
While driving to Florida, the end of the month came. The 3 of them spent time again at Daytona Beach. This time they made sure they parked legally. The girl again spent time collecting tiny shells from the beach. Little did she know these were the ones that would eventually make it home to Utah with her.
The girl figured this was a great way to start the new year. How could it be a bad year if you started it at Daytona Beach? The day was so peaceful and it was so nice.
Sam got a call from the office he worked out of in Georgia. There weren’t any loads out of Florida but they were sure they could get him a load if he got closer to the office in Georgia. Sam and the guest discussed it and decided it was the best idea to head towards Georgia.
While on the way to Georgia the guest got in touch with the owner of American LeMans, Stefan. Stefan told the guest that Merrill Lynch had paid him and that everything was good to ferry everyone to the races in Florida. Stefan also told him that he could have his jet pick up him, Sam and the girl in Georgia if he could just get there. It sounded like their luck was turning around. In Georgia the jet would pick them up and there was a chance they would get a load. To the girl it seemed like their luck was changing and things were finally going to work out.
On the way to Georgia Sam took out a loan from the owner of the truck so they could take care of things. They needed to eat and they knew once they got to Georgia they were going to need to stay over for the night. They had a good dinner and got on the road.
It took them a couple of days but they finally made it to Georgia, outside of Atlanta. This was the end of the road in so many ways. The 3 of them would spend the next several days at the hotel.
When the guest had told Sam and the girl that they were going to be flown to Florida and it was finally time for Sam to start working for them (Sam was going to be a driver for the race car) he got on the phone and told the owners of the business that he was quitting. The girl thought this was premature until they knew they were getting on a place but the guest and Sam were just so excited to no one seemed to listen to her.
They got to the motel and the girl quickly unpacked the truck. Sam helped but the guest claimed he was too sick to help. He was looking worn out and not good. Sam headed off to return the truck and get a ride back to the motel.
