Chapter 6...Part 6

The couple walked over to the Pilot. The girl had stocked up on breakfast goodies that morning so they would have some food to take with them. They each had one luggage bag and the girl had her purse. Everything else was gone by this time. The information from Greyhound was that you could only have one bag unless you wanted to pay more to have it stored.

They got on the bus at the Pilot and traveled several miles in the wrong direction. They had to get to a Greyhound terminal. This was where the girl could pick up her own ticket that Frank had bought for her and they could purchase tickets to head to Utah.

After they had the tickets and were in the terminal waiting, the girl was much more relaxed now that there was no turning back. Once the tickets were purchased they couldn’t really make any changes. She was finally going back home!

The couple got on the bus. It took them a few hours to get to Atlanta where they would have a layover for about 11 hours. This was a really long time, especially when they were exhausted. The girl watched people sleep on the floor on their luggage and was jealous that they were sleeping. But the guest refused to let her sleep in any way, shape or form. They charged their cell phones and had food while they waited. This seemed longer than anything they had been through so far since there wasn’t even TV except for CNN and that kept repeating.

They finally got on the bus and were headed west again. They got some sleep and had some excitement after they woke up. The bus had a mechanical problem. They waited by the side of the road for a very long time to have someone come and help them out.

When they were back on the road they had another setback. One of the passengers had a seizure. EMS was called and they had to wait while the passenger was taken care of.

They finally got back on the road. This made each stop after this entirely too fast. They took shorter breaks because buses were waiting at the next terminal for them to get there so change buses. There was barely time to go to the bathroom, get a quick bite to eat and get back on the bus. Definitely no time to charge cell phones or do anything else.

The closer Utah got the girl was excited but also worried. She had spent the entire trip emailing or texting people trying to find a place for them to stay. She knew there were several people that would let her stay but the both of them were a challenge. She kept hoping that the guest would hear from Mary and head to Vegas at some point.

Just before they got to the Denver, CO terminal the same passenger had a 2nd seizure. This was not only another mess to deal with but passengers were delayed getting off the bus and onto the next bus. The guest tried to talk the girl into staying in Denver and waiting for Mary to call. He was sure that she would call later since she was sleeping. She worked graveyard shift in Vegas. The girl was not about to stop. She told him he could stay but that she was continuing. She was not taking the chance of not being able to go home now that she was headed that direction.

The guest was not happy about it but he got on the next bus with the girl and continued west towards Wyoming and Utah.

While they were in Wyoming the girl got a text from her friend DK. DK told her that she and the guest could stay with them. She wasn’t happy about it and her hubby, Kent, wasn’t thrilled about it but DK told the girl they would work it out.

Now the girl had to break the news to the guest. The guest had forbidden the girl to have any contact with DK ever again. She told him that this was the only way they were going to have a roof over their heads. She told him that she had contacted all her friends and no one else was willing to let them stay. The guest was mad and told her that he would think about it.
