Chapter 6...Part 3

Over the next few days Sam borrowed more money from friends. It felt like the same thing the girl had already been through with her own friends. Not another word was heard from Barry. The 3 of them watched as much of the Rolex 24 that was available on the local channel. They watched TV all the time and slept off and on.

The girl was getting incredibly depressed and was starting to have suicidal thoughts and dreams. They had a really sharp knife with them and she would imagine all the things she could do to take her own life.

The girl started emailing friends and decided it was time to get out. They weren’t getting anywhere and she was just done with everything.

One evening the guest talked with her away from Sam. He told her that he had called a friend they had met on the road, Jake, and he was coming to get them that night. He told her that Jake was only picking up the two of them. He had met Sam and didn’t like him and refused to pick him up too. At that point the girl just wanted so survive. She felt bad about Sam but figured if they could at least get out of the situation they could always help Sam out later.

The guest told Sam some story about Jake picking them up but that they were just going to take care of some financial things and would be back to pick him up the next day. Sam believed him and the girl packed up their stuff and got ready to go. They had to leave a lot behind. They only took their suitcase and a duffle bag. Everything else was either put into the garbage or left in the room. The girl knew leaving things behind in the room was the same as trashing them and knew she had lost more than she had lost by leaving Utah in the first place. She had held on to so many things to get them back home and now more were gone.

Jake picked them up really late that night and drove them several miles. He was going to let them off at a TA truck stop but when they got there it was closed. It was still in the truck stop guide but you couldn’t even see where one had been. He drove them back several exits until they got to a Pilot. This was in Cordele, GA.

Jake didn’t want to just leave them stranded. He was going to stay that night anyhow and was nice enough to get them a room at the motel next to the Pilot. He told them he would be back over the next day after he had dropped his load and left them there.

The couple slept in very comfortable beds for several hours. The girl was still worried but she also needed some sleep. The stress of the past few days finally caught up with her and she slept dreamlessly.
